What a great way to bring in the end of Summer with another Fabulous End of Summer Crochet Sun Hat by Crochet For You!
5 YEARS OUT MEANS CURED!
Last week I had my final visit with my Oncologist! Though I will miss seeing him….. because he’s a great guy….. I was SO grateful for him to say that he no longer needed to see me!! I’m now considered cured!
As part of my cancer journey, I’ve always taken some crochet hats with me to my appointments to donate to other cancer patients. This Fabulous Summer Crochet Sun Hat was part of my drop to the Cancer Center last week.
Featured Pattern: Crochet Straw Sun Hat by Crochet For You
I was excited to try this pattern since I loved the way Crochet For You’s hat turned out. I particularly loved the yarn she used for hers, but since I had a nice big soft skein of Bernat Handicrater Cotton Yarn in Off White on hand, I thought I’d whip it up with that. I do like how mine turned out!
This is a fairly easy and straightforward pattern to follow, as long as you understand how to do the HDC in the 3rd loop stitch. Check out this YouTube tutorial by Moogly if you haven’t tried it.
Is There A Better Way To Join?
The only thing I didn’t really like about the pattern was the way the join stitch looks. It left a big trail of join stitches up the back. I’m not sure if there is a good way to join stitches when your main stitch is HDC in the 3rd loop stitch.
I’d love to know if any of you have a better idea to join stitches with this method. Luckily, I had a great big Crochet Sunflower from one of my last projects that covered most of that join stitch beautifully and I think it was a stunning addition to the hat! (Be sure to check out my tips for making this flower pattern shown at the very bottom of this post.)
Want Your Crocheting to Look Like Knitting?
I do love the effect the HDC in the 3rd loop stitch has of making it look like rows of chains all the way around. It’s also known as a way to mimic knitting.
So there you have it! Be sure to check out Crochet for You and the post for this great free Summer Hat Pattern.
